Red Glasses and Spring Hideout

I've had a lot of questions following my recent Facebook post on the yellow glasses so I thought it might be helpful to share more on what I've been learning recently.

I recently tested my husband's melatonin levels as I was concerned about his sleep and frequent waking at night. He works for a US company and also has a team in Singapore.

Working across multiple time zones means turning off the laptop and putting the phone when it gets dark isn't always possible. Not surprisingly his melatonin on the test was low and as I thought this was really disrupting the quality of his sleep.

Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland (in the brain). It's what makes us feel sleepy at night and helps control our circadian rhythms.

Melatonin production is suppressed by light - which makes sense - when it's light you want to be up, when it's dark you want to be asleep.

But, what happens when we expose ourselves to light - particularly the blue light we get from mobile phones and laptops? It can significantly affect our melatonin production.

There's all sorts of nasties now being associated with poor sleep and low melatonin production - read more here. As well as just feeling generally tired during the day.

We decided to give these blue light blocking glasses a go. These block the blue light emitted from phones and laptops if you are not able to avoid using them in the evening.

My husband has really taken to them. He wears them now most evenings even when not working as they have really improved his sleep. My 16 year old also now has a pair for her homework as she said it's easier on her eyes when using the laptop. I've got a pair now just to see what I might be missing out on....

Our glasses are by Swanswick from Amazon.

We have also opened up the booking for the Spring Hideout 11th-14th April

The Spring Hideout is in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. I'll be breaking the detox myths and our food will follow the Institute For Functional Medicine's Detox Food Plan to gently cleanse the body and increase energy.

Lisa is going to be offering movement, breath and meditation practices to gently cleanse and invigorate.

Half the places are already booked so please head over to www.clearmedicinehideouts.co.uk if you'd like to join us.

Warm wishes,

Debbie
